…and it wasn’t even my fault!
We’ve all had those moments where we’ve found a recipe that looks incredible, but in practice it just doesn’t pan out. It’s not because of anything you did or didn’t do, there was just some fatal flaw in the plan. This recipe was exactly that.
Don’t get me wrong, I make mistakes in the kitchen all the time. I’ve under cooked, over cooked, spilled it every where, misjudged a quantity, incorrectly halved quantities, injured myself, injured others, broken everything. You name it and I’ve probably messed up in that way.
This recipe was not that though. I repeat, this disaster was not my fault.
It was supposed to be an almond cake with a fig filling & a maple icing. In actual fact, the cake was bland, the filling was too sweet and had an odd taste, & the icing was just grainy sugar. I think the base of the idea is essentially good, but the end results were lacking.
I’ve included the pictures because it still looks pretty, granted it could have been prettier, but once I had tasted each of the components on their own I was a little disheartened and had somewhat given up.
Needless to say I will not be sharing the recipe, I will share the pictures though to prove I’m not entirely incompetent when it comes to assembling a cake.
