The combination of cheese and something sweet has been around for ages. In Greece we combine cheese with honey or figs, Italians like pear, and generally everyone appreciates this amazing combination. This particular one reminds me of my years studying abroad where I first started experimenting with cooking. The university was situated in a small village where except for the uncannily good chinese restaurant, there was nothing good to eat. Anywhere. Ever. So I started cooking for myself everyday and the first snack I had success with accompanied me throughout my years there. Every afternoon I would make my own bread and buy the most expensive turkey ham from a small deli. This was proper meat, not the gel like slices of God-knows-what we are used to consuming from the supermarkets. So a thick layer of that went on the bread and then on both sides of the open loaf rested a massive triangle of brie cheese cut lengthwise in half. Under the grill it went and before serving a nice layer of raspberry preserve in between everything…hmmmm. I have to mention that I used to weigh 135kg back then. So drawing from that experience and taking into account that the holidays binge eating period is soon upon us, i give you this dinner table worthy recipe which is simple and easy to prepare ahead but always impresses the guests.
